Back To School Newsletter

We are excited to be getting ready for the upcoming school year. The Rachel Carson program consists of 180 students with 6 teachers. The theme for the program in 2009-10 is Sustainability. You will be hearing much more on this theme this year!! The following is some basic information to get you ready for a good start on September 8th. The first day is a full day for students. Classes begin promptly at 7:40 am and end at 2:05. Please have your student meet us in the cafeteria on the first day.

First Day of School for Parents:
Current RC parents will give an orientation to all new parents. The orientation will begin at 7:40; the RC parents will greet you in the cafeteria when your students go to class. The orientation will last less than 1 hour.

Rachel Carson Website:
Please visit this website often for updated information. We also have a school calendar on google calendar that can be accessed through our website under Links.

Five Oaks Packet Pickup:
Yes, you do need to come in to pick up your informational packet on the following dates. This packet contains bus route, lunch, PE, and emergency contact information. If you cannot come in to pick up the packet, it will be given to your child on the first day of school.  WE CANNOT MAIL OUT THE PACKETS THIS YEAR. Please disregard the Five Oaks classroom supply information.  The RC information is included on this website.

August 26, 9:00 am – 1:00 pm
August 27, 9:00 am – 1:00 pm AND 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm

Site Visits:
The Rachel Carson program is again planning our site visits for Wednesdays. Most months, the program will take 3 site visits. To make these site visits most effective, we need parents to chaperone. Please plan to chaperone one site visit per student this year. If everyone will do this, we will not be short handed. Dates and locations will be handed out the first week of school for you to sign up.

Bus Route Information:
Bus route information will be available at the Five Oaks packet pickup dates. The AM bus picks up the student from an assigned pick up location near your house. The student is bussed to a hub and then to Five Oaks Middle School. After school, the student rides to his/her home high school and rides a regular bus route home.
