Rachel Carson students continue their community service even after leaving Rachel Carson. A former student of ours, who is currently in high school, is involved with Goals for Girls. Help us support her continued efforts by purchasing coffee or tea.
Seven local female soccer players (ages 16-18) as representatives of Goals for Girls are traveling to India this winter to work with 120 Indian girls (ages 9-15) from impoverished and leprosy affected communities. The girls will be involved in service projects, soccer and life skills activities that focus on promoting self-esteem, leadership and cooperation in an all female environment.
What is Goals for Girls? Goals for Girls is an international initiative of girls helping girls through the game of soccer. Goals for Girls connects girls from around the world through cultural exchange, service, teamwork, and life skills education. All of which is taught through the game of soccer.
Your purchase of coffee or tea will help change the lives of these young Indian girls.
- Coffee is $10/8 ounce bag
- Tea is $7/box of 20 tea bags

Everyone is invited to the ceremony handing Ozark to his new Guidee. Many people took part in raising Ozark into the Guide Dog he has become.
Ozark came to Rachel Carson in October 2011. He would hang out in math class and attend site visits. Students helped to practice important skills with Ozark between classes.
August 5, 2012, Ozark returned to Guide Dog Campus for his final training. Since returning to Campus, we haven’t had an opportunity to see him, but we have heard of his amazing progress through eight phases of training.
Graduation is a culminating ceremony for all our experiences with Ozark. He will be excited to see familiar faces.
Ozark is the second Guide Dog raised at Rachel Carson. Tandy, a yellow female lab, was raised in our program during the 2009-2010 school year. She is currently living in southern California with her Guidee, Charlie. They have taken many trips together, both via walking and airplane. Her most recent plane trip was to Paris last spring.
All Rachel Carson 8th Graders should have gotten an email about this training. The training takes place on Wednesday, August 22 from 9-2.
